Code Consulting Services

At PSquare Engineering & Construction Ltd., we take pride in helping our clients navigate the complexities of the BC Building Code (BCBC) and the Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL). With a collaborative and systematic approach, our team provides clear guidance, practical solutions, and trusted expertise. We are well respected by municipalities across BC that offer Certified Professional (CP) services, and we work closely with authorities, owners, and consultants to ensure that projects move forward smoothly and with confidence.

01

Code Consulting

Our Code Consulting services focus on ensuring full compliance with the BC Building Code and Vancouver Building By-law. We work closely with clients, architects, and other consultants throughout the design and planning process to identify and resolve any code non-conformities early. By catching potential issues before construction begins, we help projects stay on schedule, avoid costly revisions, and ensure buildings meet all safety and regulatory requirements.

We provide expert guidance across a wide range of building codes, including fire safety, accessibility, and life safety standards. Our goal is to deliver buildings that are not only safe and compliant, but also efficient, functional, and designed to the highest standards of quality. With our practical solutions and technical expertise, we help bring building projects to life with confidence.

02

Certified Professional (CP) Program

The Certified Professional (CP) Program provides a streamlined path to obtaining building permits in municipalities that offer this program, including Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, Squamish, Langley, and others. Our team of Certified Professionals, accredited under the AIBC/EGBC program, is well known and highly respected by these municipalities, enabling us to effectively guide projects through permitting and approvals.

We work closely with clients, architects, and municipalities to ensure your building projects fully meet BC Building Code (BCBC) and Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL) requirements. Acting as the CP for your project, we help clarify code requirements, reduce delays, and confirm compliance at every stage.

Our CP services cover a wide range of project types—from residential and commercial developments to mixed-use and institutional buildings. With our technical expertise, practical guidance, and strong municipal relationships, we ensure projects are efficient, compliant, and positioned for successful approvals, giving clients confidence that their projects are built to code and ready for construction.

03

Alternative Solutions

The Alternative Solutions process allows projects to achieve BCBC and VBBL compliance through innovative, customized approaches when prescriptive code requirements do not fully suit a project’s design or operational needs.

Our team works closely with clients, architects, and consultants to develop creative, practical, and safe solutions that meet all necessary safety and performance standards. From technical analysis to documentation and justification, we guide you through every step of the process to ensure your alternative solution is fully compliant and approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

Whether the goal is cost-efficiency, sustainability, or design innovation, our Alternative Solutions services provide flexible paths to code compliance without compromising safety, functionality, or project vision.

04

Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Services

In certain situations where municipalities do not have jurisdiction—such as provincially or federally owned projects, or developments on First Nation lands—PSquare Engineering acts as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). In this role, we ensure that projects fully comply with the BC Building Code (BCBC) and Vancouver Building By-law (VBBL), providing a trusted, independent oversight function.

Our responsibilities as AHJ include issuing building permits, reviewing designs and construction plans, and inspecting construction progress to confirm ongoing compliance. We work closely with clients, architects, and consultants to ensure that all code requirements are met from design through construction completion.

By acting as AHJ, we provide clients with confidence, clarity, and accountability, ensuring projects meet regulatory standards even in complex jurisdictional contexts. This service is particularly valuable for projects on First Nation lands, federal or provincial properties, and other sites outside standard municipal oversight.
